The right to food is considered as a basic human right. To provide such right Government of India introduced The National Food Security Bill, 2011 in the Lok Sabha on December 22, 2011 . The objective of the bill is to provide food and nutritional security to the people of certain groups. The simple explanation of Food Security Bill (ONLY ESSENTIAL PART NOT FULL BILL ):
- Also known as NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY ACT-2011
- Extended to whole India except Jammu and Kashmir
Provisions
- Priority households - 7 kg grains /per person
- General household – not less than 3 kg
